So where is the accountability following last week's violence?
The Human Rights Commission is looking into how more than 20 black people have been killed in Phoenix north of Durban. Many bodies have yet to be identified. Largely Indian community groups in Phoenix banded together to protect themselves when the looting and burning of shops and malls in the province spilled over to house attacks as well. But there were excesses and vigilantism. Some reportedly fired indiscriminately and stopped people trying to enter public streets. Amir of Gauteng Muslim Shura Council, Amir Muhammed Gadimang. And Political Analyst at the Xubera Institute for Research and Development, Xolani Dube.
