The 2021 Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41mm is one of the best men’s watches of the year. Now equipped with lush lacquer dials, the humble Oyster Perpetual has risen to challenge the traditionally dominant Rolex Daytona, Submariner, and GMT Master II. Today’s show includes the Rolex OP41 with its signature green lacquer “stella” dial, upgraded clasp, and new Rolex caliber 3230 automatic movement. Tim Mosso of the WatchBox here showcases a preowned Rolex reference 124300 from the world leading WatchBox inventory of luxury preowned watches.

Rolex launched its original Oyster Perpetual in 1933. The watch, which became the prototype of every modern sports watch, included the “Oyster” water resistant case and the “Perpetual” automatic winding system. The spirit of that pioneering watch lives in the Oyster Perpetual 41. With a domed bezel and cushion-like case profile, the newest Rolex OP pays tribute to the early “bubble back” models that were made from the 1930s through the 1950s. New for 2021, a first-ever 41mm case adds newfound wrist presence to Rolex’s evergreen classic.

Size aside, the newest Rolex watch includes several meaningful changes compared to the previous 39mm Oyster Perpetual. Most prominent among those changes is a new set of gloss lacquer dial options in bright colors; this example includes a green dial. All of the new dials pay tribute to the well-regarded Rolex “stella” lacquer dials of the 1970s and 80s.

In addition, Rolex has added an Easylink adjustment latch inside the bracelet clasp. And while water resistance remains rated at 100-meters, the movement thusly protected is all new. Rolex caliber 3230 is an automatic winding movement with a 70-hour power reserve. The 3230 includes hacking seconds, a COSC chronometer certification, an antimagnetic “Parachrom Blue” Breguet overcoil hairspring, and robust architecture.

Our show also includes the elusive A. Lange & Sohne “Triple Split” chronograph, an Audemars Piguet 25th anniversary tribute to the first Royal Oak Offshore, and two stainless steel dress watch complications from the Vacheron Constantin “Les Historiques” collection.
