Why ionization potential of inert gases is exceptionally high? - #shorts #fasttrack

Q.Why the ionization potential of inert gases is exceptionally high?
Ans:- The minimum amount of energy required to remove most loosely bounded outermost electron from isolated gaseous atom in its ground state is called as its ionization potential.
The general electronic configuration of nobel gases is ns2 np6.The electron is to be removed from completely filled extra stable subshell, thus more energy is required to remove electron. Hence ionization potential of nobel gases is exceptionally high.
