Officials have put an odor neutralizer in the water of the Dominguez Channel, hoping to offset the smell of hydrogen sulfide. The foul-smelling chemical was created by rotting plants and other materials in the channel, then made worse by ethanol released in the water after a recent fire. Residents say the smells coming from this channel are, “Like meat that is just decaying,” and “The most disgusting sewer waste.”
