Manitoba hospitals to hire undergraduate nursing students to care teams – November 15, 2021

In Winnipeg, Manitoba cabinet ministers Audrey Gordon (health and seniors care) and Wayne Ewasko (advanced education, skills and immigration) announce that hospitals in the province will soon employ third- and fourth-year nursing students as they join care teams within surgical, medicine and mental health units. The recruitment aims to address the nursing shortage in Manitoba, as well as burnout caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Lanette Siragusa (provincial lead of health system integration and quality as well as chief nursing officer for Shared Health) also takes part in the announcement.
