The Department of Health posted another 32,322 infections today, down 19.4 per cent last Monday (shown in graph). Meanwhile, 57 people died within 28 days of testing positive, a week-on-week jump of 42.5 per cent. The figure lags a few weeks behind infection numbers due to the time it takes for someone to become seriously unwell after catching the virus. Health bosses did not release any hospitalisation figures today. But NHS England chief executive Amanda Pritchard came under fire for suggesting 14 times as many Covid-infected Britons were in hospital compared to last year, when the figure is actually lower. And the Prime Minister urged people to come forward for their booster jabs - are a key part of ministers plans to avoid restrictions over the coming months - warning 'too many' elderly double-jabbed Britons are being hospitalised. The group - who were the first to receive the vaccine last winter - now have less protection, because vaccine effectiveness drops after six months.
