About UNIC Beirut:
The United Nations Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut) is one of 59 offices around the world that constitute branch offices of the UN Department of Public Information (UNDPI) in New York. It was established on 7 September 1962 further to General Assembly Resolution 13 (1) of 13 February 1946, which called on UNDPI to establish branch offices in all parts of the world.
UNIC Beirut serves Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Kuwait, and works closely with the UN family in Lebanon. Its core functions are the following:
Promoting an informed understanding of the work and purposes of the UN;
Informing the public of the aims and activities of the UN in accordance with the purposes and principles enshrined in the UN Charter;
Organizing awareness activities on the priorities of the UN and strengthening national and regional support for the Organization;
Developing communication strategies to generate greater public understanding of the work of the Organization and its priorities;
Disseminating information on the activities of UN agencies and programmes in Lebanon;
Maintaining close relations with the media, and other partners such as governmental and non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, etc…
Providing leadership to the UN Communication Group in Lebanon, which consists of the communication officers of UN agencies and programmes in Lebanon and implements joint activities;
Providing information and feedback to UNDPI on the Centre's work and activities.
The mandate of UNDPI is to promote an informed understanding of the work, principles and the purposes of the UN among the peoples of the world through various outreach campaigns. The Department provides information and produces materials on UN global activities such as peacekeeping and international security, economic, social and cultural development, human rights and humanitarian issues, education, population, drug trafficking and other issues.

مركز الأمم المتحدة للإعلام في بيروت هو واحد من 59 مركزاً إعلامياً منتشراً حول العالم يعملون كمكاتب ميدانيّة لإدارة شؤون الإعلام في مقر الأمم المتحدة في نيويورك. تأسس المركز في بيروت في 7 أيلول/سبتمبر 1962 بناءً على قرار الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة رقم 13 (1) والذي صدر في 13 شباط/فبراير 1946 داعياً إدارة شؤون الإعلام إلى إنشاء مكاتب لها حول العالم.
يخدم مركز الأمم المتحدة للإعلام في بيروت كلاً من لبنان وسوريا والأردن والكويت، ويعمل بشكلٍ وثيق مع أسرة المنظومة الدولية العاملة في لبنان. من مهامه الرئيسية:
نشر المعرفة حول الأمم المتحدة وأهدافها؛
إعلام الجمهور بأهداف الأمم المتحدة وأنشطتها وفقاً للمبادئ المكرّسة في ميثاق المنظومة الدولية؛
تنظيم أنشطة توعوية حول أولويات الأمم المتحدة وتعزيز الدعم الوطني والإقليمي لها؛
وضع استراتيجيات إعلاميّة تطال أكبر شريحة من الناس لرفع الوعي حول أولويات الأمم المتحدة وعملها؛
نشر المعلومات حول أنشطة وبرامج ووكالات الأمم المتحدة في لبنان؛
المحافظة على تواصل وتعاون وثيقين مع وسائل الإعلام وغيرها من الشركاء مثل المنظمات الحكومية وغير الحكومية، والمؤسسات التعليمية، وآخرين؛
قيادة فريق الأمم المتحدة الإعلامي، الذي يتألف من المسؤولين الإعلاميين في كافة برامج ووكالات المنظومة العاملة في لبنان، ومهامه القيام بأنشطة إعلاميّة مشتركة؛
تزويد إدارة شؤون الإعلام بمعلومات وتوصيات حول مهام وأنشطة المركز.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن مهمّة إدارة شؤون الإعلام في نيويورك تقضي بنشر مبادئ الأمم المتحدة وأهدافها على نطاق واسع بين جميع شعوب العالم من خلال القيام بحملات متنوعة. وتوفّر الإدارة المعلومات حول الأنشطة العالميّة للأمم المتحدة، كما تُنتج مواداً للتعريف بها، لتغطّي كافة المجالات التي تعمل فيها المنظومة الدولية مثل السلم والأمن الدوليين، والتنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية، وحقوق الانسان والقضايا الإنسانية، والتربية، والسكان، والإتجار بالمخدرات، وغيرها.
